John Goodman Reveals How And Why He Lost Over 100 Pounds

Americans know John Goodman best as Dan Conner, the lovable husband and father from Roseanne. Throughout Goodman’s long career, which stretches back more than 30 years, his big frame and even bigger personality have helped make him famous.

But in 2013 the star decided it was time for a change. Over the years he had tried fad diets and had some success, but never for very long. At his heaviest in 2010, the actor says he was nearly 400 pounds.

With the help of Serena Williams’ trainer Mackie Shilstone, the actor has managed to pull off a dramatic transformation, looking like half the man he used to be.

But there’s a painful reason for the shocking change.

While there’s no telling how much he lost exactly (Goodman doesn’t use a scale) his trainer says it’s over 100 pounds at least.

Goodman has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past, and says he found changing his diet to be just as hard as giving up drugs.

“I was just eating all the time. I was just eating alcoholically,” he told ABC News.

“In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a 6-pack of bud or whatever and just go back to my old habits.”

After struggling to lose weight for decades, something changed in Goodman’s life a few years ago that has made him stick to a healthy lifestyle ever since.

Click the next page to find out why Goodman lost so much weight!

It turns out the only thing that could motivate Goodman to change his life for the better was his own sense of disappointment.

“I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself,” he said, “you’re shaving in the mirror and you don’t want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous.”

Since then he’s started exercising 6 days a week, making sure he gets 10,000 steps a day, and sticking to a Mediterranean diet of veggies and healthy protein.

Goodman also says that he’s been limiting his sugar intake.

The star jokes that his life hasn’t been totally perfect since losing the weight – he had to replace his whole wardrobe, after all – but he’s feeling much better about himself.

This True Crime Is The Reason For The Creation Of A Hit TV Show

America’s Most Wanted has been watched by millions of North Americans since it first aired on Fox television network in the summer of 1987.

The idea of televising a national dragnet was inspired by others successful crime watch programs in Europe. After requests to host the show were turned down by recently resigned U.S. Attorney Rudolph Giuliani, and former Marine Corps Commandant General P. X. Kelly, the network approached a man named John Walsh.

Walsh had already advocated for new legislation in America that would protect missing children and created the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, but it was the tragic loss of his son that would make him the perfect fit for the role….

Read his story on Page 2…

On the afternoon of July 27, 1981, Revé Drew Walsh brought her son Adam to the Hollywood (“Sears”) Mall in Hollywood, Florida.

She had intended only to inquire about a lamp that was on sale, and left Adam at a kiosk with Atari 2600 video games. He joined several other boys who were taking turns playing the games.

When Revé returned at about 12:15 p.m., Adam was gone.

Frantically, she searched out the store manager, who informed her that a scuffle had broken out among the boys over the Atari.

A security guard asked the older ones if their parents were there – they replied that they were not and so, the guard had thrown the boys out of the store. It was speculated that Adam, being just six years old, was too shy to speak up.

Desperate to find her young son, Adam’s mother searched the toy department and and his name paged over the Sears public address system. Though, by that time, he was long gone…

After 90 minutes of searching in vain, Revé called the Hollywood Police at 1:55 p.m.

After an initial investigation, police determined that Adam had been abducted by a loner named Ottis Toole, a drifter who lured Adam away from the Sears entrance and into his 1971 Cadillac.

The promise of toys and candies encouraged the six-year-old boy to climb into a stranger’s car and be driven away on Interstate 95 toward Toole’s Jacksonville home.

The Murder

Investigators speculate that Adam was likely compliant at first, he probably began to panic the further they drove away from his home town.

As police determined that Toole had punched the young boy in the face, and then, knocked him a second time, completely unconscious. While Adam was unconscious, Toole drove to the Radebaugh Road overpass, where he strangled the boy to death then decapitated him with a machete.

On August 10, John and Revé Walsh appeared on Good Morning America offering a $100,000 reward for Adam’s safe return.

Shortly after their broadcast plea, the severed head of a young boy was confirmed to have been that of Adam Walsh.

Botched Investigation

The evidence collected against Ottis Toole was ultimately lost by police, including a bloodstained carpet from Toole’s Cadillac, the machete used to decapitate Adam and even the car itself.

Since DNA profiling was relatively new in the early ’80s, there was no way to determine whose blood was found in the Cadillac.

Tool confessed to and retracted accounts of his involvement in Adam’s death multiple times. As a result, he was never charged in the Walsh case, even though all the evidence and witnesses placed him at the scene of the crimes.

Delayed Justice

Toole died in prison in 1996 at the age of 49. He was serving a life sentence for other crimes, but before his passing, his niece told John Walsh that he confessed to her Adam’s murder.

In 1997, Hollywood Police Chief Rick Stone completed an exhaustive review of Adam’s case and concluded that he found evidence to prove “beyond a reasonable doubt” that Toole had murdered Adam.

Finally, on December 16, 2008, Hollywood, Florida Police Chief Chad Wagner closed the case, announcing that the police were satisfied that Ottis Tool was the murderer.

She Almost Lost Her Child Because Of Her Addiction, See What ‘Tan Mom’ Looks Like Today

Patricia Krentcil, whose deep-bronze complexion earned her the nickname “Tan Mom,” became a household name in 2012 after news about her extreme addiction broke all over the internet.

The New Jersey mom was addicted to tanning and caused a lot of controversy when the media reported that her 5-year-old daughter showed up to school with burns all over her body.

It was later revealed that she had the little girl join her on a tanning session despite the fact that New Jersey has a ban on children under 14 using tanning beds.

Tan Mom was subsequently arrested but the jury eventually found her not guilty because there wasn’t enough evidence to support the charges against her.

Over the last 5 years, Patricia gave up tanning after an intervention by her family. She managed to keep her fame alive by engaging in various projects. She dabbled in some music, made a cameo in an adult movie and promoted a skincare book.

About a year after the child endangerment charges against her were dropped, Patricia entered rehab for alcohol abuse.

She also had other not-so-great moments including drunken red carpet appearances, a second stint in rehab and a divorce from her husband, Richard.

The 50-year-old eventually toned down the tanning and is getting her life back on track. Back in March, she called into the Howard Stern Show and told listeners that she “might be moving to Dallas” with a man she met a party and is currently dating. She described him as a “NASA stock broker, Fortune 500.”

Life and Style Magazine recently unveiled photos that show the former tanning addict’s new look and she appears to be doing well.

Take a look:

She is currently part of The Howard Stern Show Wack Packers, an unusual group of people who contribute to programming with their comical quips.

What do you think of Patricia “Tan Mom” Krentcil’s new look?

This Baked Mushroom Risotto Is the Ultimate in Comfort Food!

Print Recipe

I just love a good risotto recipe. This Baked Mushroom Risotto is packed with delicious mushrooms, caramelized onions and herbs galore! It’s the ultimate in comfort food.

We baked this up in this beautiful Staub Vegetable Cocotte – it’s big enough to make tons of food, and the gorgeous enamel interior coating creates a non-stick surface and is ideal for braising, roasting and caramelizing! You’ll love this dish!

  • 1/2 ounce dried shiitake or porcini mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/3 cup olive oil, divided
  • 4 yellow onions (about 2 pounds)
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1/2 pound cremini mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 1 large sprig fresh rosemary
  • 1 cup Arborio or short-grain white rice
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more to garnish

Heat the oven to 300 degrees. Rinse the dried mushrooms lightly, to remove any dust or grit. Place the mushrooms in a ceramic bowl and pour the boiling water over them. Set them aside to steep while you cook the onions.

Chop one of the onions into a fine dice. Heat 2 tablespoons of the olive oil in a 3-quart (or larger) ovenproof pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 8 minutes, or until soft and golden. Push the onions to the side of the pot, and turn the heat up to medium-high.

Add all the sliced cremini mushrooms and let them cook for 5 minutes without stirring. Flip the mushrooms and cook for another five minutes, or until they are quite brown and a crust is developing on the bottom of the pan.

Drain the dried mushrooms, reserving the liquid. Add the mushrooms and rosemary sprig to the pan and sauté briefly, mixing with the onion and the rest of the mushrooms. Add the rice and cook, stirring once or twice, for about 4 minutes, or until the rice begins to turn transparent.

Turn the heat to high and add the white wine, vinegar, broth, and reserved mushroom steeping liquid. Stir and scrape the bottom of the pan as you add the liquid to deglaze any yummy mushroomy bits sticking to the pan. Stir in the salt and pepper.

Bring to a boil. Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid and put it in the oven to bake for 35 minutes.

While the rice is baking, make the caramelized onions. Heat the remaining olive oil in a cast iron skillet. Cut the remaining three onions in half, and then slice them into thin half moons. Add them to the oil and sprinkle liberally with salt. Cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the onions turn a dark mahogany brown. Let them go as long as you can; I usually cook mine for at least 30 minutes.

When the risotto has finished baking, let it stand uncovered for 5 minutes before serving. Dish it up and top each bowl with a spoonful of caramelized onions, and a little extra pepper.

21 Pop Culture Facts That Will Make You Feel Ancient

Time makes fools of us all, but we just wish it didn’t happen so soon! Do you ever catch yourself listening to your favorite song, then nearly have a heart attack when you remember what year it came out?

The fact is the world has changed a lot since we were young. These days toddlers know how to use the internet, but if you bring up Mr. Whipple nobody knows what you’re talking about!

Take a look at this list of facts that will make you feel your age – if you’re brave enough – and just keep reminding yourself that you’re only as old as you feel.

1. Did you buy your kids the Harry Potter books?

The first one came out back in 1997, which means it’s turning 20 years old later this year, so the boy wizard is almost old enough to vote. Other kids favorites from the same year include Pokemon and Teletubbies.

2. What were you listening to in 1980?

When the Irish rockers U2 released their first album Boy in 1980, they put 5-year-old Peter Rowen on the cover. 37 years later here’s what he looks like today.

3. Speaking of getting older…

Kids born in the year 2000 could be graduating from high school this year.

4. But they won’t be studying with an encyclopedia

The Encyclopedia Britannica used to be something every home in America was proud to own, but it actually stopped printing 5 years ago. Today, like pretty much everything else, it’s online only.

5. Remember All In The Family?

If the show was rebooted today, the actor who played Archie Bunker’s son-in-law Meathead (Rob Reiner) would be too old to play the family’s dad. Caroll O’Connor was just 47 when the show started in 1971. Today, Reiner is 70 years old.

6. The show Magnum P.I. is 37 years old (and so is his car)

7. Remember when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were a couple?

That was more than 10 years ago. The couple split in 2005 after 5 years together, which is 2 years longer than his marriage with Angelina lasted.

Click the next page to learn how much TV has changed since you were young!

8. Just look at this People cover from 40 years ago

What a blast from the past! The magazine’s list of news-makers and public figures included President Reagan, A-Team star Mr. T, Jennifer Beals from Flashdance and The Thorn Birds star Richard Chamberlain.

But can you remember who’s on the bottom left? It’s Vanessa Williams, the Miss America winner who caused a stir when Penthouse magazine published nude photos of her.

9. If you remember what this is, you’re officially old

10. Because these days all this tech can fit into your pocket

11. Kids today can name everyone in this photo

Like it or not, the Kardashians have dominated reality TV for 10 years.

12. TV has definitely changed a lot

Do you remember watching Live! with Regis and Kathy Lee every morning? You may be surprised to learn that Kathy Lee left the show in 2000 – that’s 17 years ago. Now things have changed again with the announcement that Ryan Seacrest is hosting.

13. And Fiends has been off the air for 13 years

14. All your other favorite shows have been over for a LONG time

It’s been 20 years since Roseanne left the airwaves while Three’s Company ended way back in 1984. And remember the Brady Bunch? If you remember watching a new episode of this show, it must have been at least 1974.

We’ve moved the scariest facts to the last page, so click if you dare!

15. Here’s a scary thought:

The picture below is actor Dylan Minette, who’s the star of the latest hit TV show 13 Reasons Why. You probably don’t recognize him, but he’s the new big thing in Hollywood.

Now, Minette is just 20 years old, which means that he’s younger than the movies Forrest Gump, Toy Story and Jurassic Park.

The OJ Simpson murder trial, Christopher Reeve’s horse-riding accident and Tiger Woods competed in his first major golf tournament the year before he was born. Feeling out of touch with pop culture yet?

16. And here’s another scary thought

If the Simpsons children kept aging after the show premiered in 1989, here’s what their ages would be this year.

17. Kids born in 2001 can drive this year (Yikes!)

18. The classic Dallas “Who shot J.R.?” episode aired 37 years ago

Spoiler alert: it was Kristin Shepard.

19. Kids today definitely have no idea what this is

Or this, or this.

20. Remember this classic speech?

President Reagan delivered it 30 years ago, and the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, which means anyone under 28 was born after it was destroyed (and probably doesn’t remember why it was so important).

21. We’re closer to the year 2030 than 2000.

How old will you be that year?

Experts Say You’re Rushing Your Tea – It Takes 5 Minutes For The Perfect Brew

There’s nothing more relaxing than a warm cup of tea. Not only is it wonderfully soothing to drink, but there’s something almost hypnotic about the steps to make a perfect cup of tea.

Until, that is, you find out you’ve been making your tea wrong for years!

Tea experts at University College London (yes, that’s a real job) have found that 80{49382ccf8aa3307257579caf6f867159d328eca730a0976815a1bacefc5bc6ee} of people surveyed make one big mistake when it comes to tea.

1,000 people from the UK were surveyed about their tea habits and the results were pretty surprising. According to experts, 80{49382ccf8aa3307257579caf6f867159d328eca730a0976815a1bacefc5bc6ee} of people aren’t brewing their tea long enough.

You may be used to dipping the teabag in until the water changes color and then tossing it in the sink, but according to researchers you should wait until the tea is completely absorbed in the water, which can take up to 5 minutes.

There actually is a recipe for a perfect cup of tea, made by experts at the British Standards Institute, but they’re even more demanding. Not only do they suggest adding milk to your water before tea, they also say you should steep your tea for 6 full minutes before you serve it.

Experts may think they know what’s best, but we say to each their own, especially when it comes to something as important as tea.

How do you make the perfect cup of tea? Share this post and tell us!

She Lost 455lbs In 2 Years And Her Transformation Is Incredible

Obesity is an increasingly large problem in America. Nikki Webster, who is just 34 years old, was so obese she could barely stand or wash herself anymore.

“My weight is debilitating. My body is so painful, I hate it. But I say this to myself. Food is an addiction to me and my addiction is killing me,” she said.

Nikki’s story was documented on the TLC show My 600lb Life where it was revealed she weighed a scary 649lbs. She uprooted her life from Little Rock, Arkansas and moved to Texas to work with Dr. Nowzaradan. Referred to as “Dr. Now”, he is a weight-loss surgeon who specializes in morbidly obese patients.

Daily Mail

Dr. Now told Nikki she had to lose 50lbs on a limited diet plan before undergoing surgery. It took 3 months for Nikki to lose the weight, and when she did she was approved for a gastric sleeve.

Nikki’s surgery was a success, and she lost 207lbs in a year. She consulted a therapist regularly to make sure the issues which caused her to originally gain the weight did not come back to sabotage her current success.

Daily Mail

Nikki’s weight loss hit a wall when her best friend Michael died after also undergoing weight-loss surgery.

“Earlier this year, my best friend Michael had a gastric bypass, and he died. That haunts me,” she explained.

She struggled to find her motivation again, but Dr. Now told Nikki if she lost more weight she could have skin removal surgery to get rid of the excess skin on her stomach.

Daily Mail

When her total weight loss hit 348lbs, Dr. Now approved Nikki for skin removal surgery. She had a whopping 56lbs of excess skin removed from her stomach. However, after surgery, Nikki was rushed back under the knife due to internal bleeding.

Daily Mail

But despite her setbacks, Nikki now looks totally different.

Nikki’s internal bleeding was fixed and eventually she was able to return home.

With her weight now at 236lbs, Nikki was able to buy the first pair of jeans she’s ever owned and was even asked out on a date by one of her long time friends!

Nikki was also able to ride a bike for the first time in ages.

Baby Shower Cookie Cakes Are the Adorable Treat You Need for Your Baby Shower!

Print Recipe

If you’re looking for that perfect dessert for a baby shower, look no further! These Baby Shower Cookie Cakes are adorable, customizable for either gender (or whatever color you like!) and so fun!

Who would say no to a tower of sugar cookies layered with icing and topped off with a tuft of cotton candy?! This sweet treat is the perfect dessert to wow your guests!

For the cookies

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

For the royal icing

  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 6 tablespoons warm water
  • Food color, as desired

For the decoration

To make the cookies, in a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In another large bowl, beat butter and both sugars with electric mixer at medium speed or with spoon until well blended. Beat in eggs, one at a time, scraping bowl after each. Beat in vanilla. Stir in flour mixture until well mixed.

Wrap dough tightly in plastic wrap, then refrigerate 2 hours.

Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thick.

For each cookie cake, cut 3 (3-inch) circles, 2 (2-inch) circles, and 2 (1-inch) circles. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Refrigerate 30 minutes.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until cookies are set. Cool completely, about 15 minutes.

To make icing, in large bowl, beat icing ingredients with electric mixer on medium speed 7 to 10 minutes or until no longer glossy.

Add more warm water to icing, 1/2 tablespoon at a time, until icing can be piped through a tip. Icing will still be stiff, but if too thick to pipe, keep adding water.

Place in piping bag fitted with writing tip. Pipe thin line around outside edge of each cookie. Allow to set 15 minutes.

Set aside 1/2 cup of the icing in airtight container. Add more water to remaining icing. Make it thin enough so if you drop a spoonful back into the bowl, the icing does not hold its shape, but disappears back into the frosting within a few seconds.

Drop a spoonful of the icing onto center of each cookie. Using an offset spatula, spread icing to the border piped on earlier. Allow cookies to dry at least 6 hours.

To assemble cookie cake, place reserved icing in piping bag fitted with round tip. Place one of the largest cookies on the bottom, and place a dot of icing in center of cookie as glue. Place a second large cookie on top. Continue the process, using the icing to “glue” the cookies together. For each cookie cake, use 3 large cookies on the bottom, followed by 2 medium-sized cookies and 2 small cookies on top. Place small dot of icing on top cookie, and place small piece of cotton candy on top for decoration. Repeat with remaining cookies to make 8 cookie cakes.

Princess Diana’s Passionate Secret Affair Exposed

No matter how much time has passed, Princess Diana’s untimely death on August 31, 1997 continues to baffle a lot of people today.

Over the last 20 years, there have been books, movies, documentaries and theories based on the Princess’ life and death but it doesn’t seem to end there.

In fact ABC announced that it will be airing a special, The Last 100 Days of Diana, which “retraces the events and details of Diana’s final months through the eyes of close confidants.”

We have already been subjected to plenty of revelations about Diana’s personal life especially her romantic relationships that came after her divorce from Prince Charles but more recently another one has come to light.

Ron Bell/AP

It is alleged that the late Princess became smitten with a British-Pakistani heart surgeon named Hasnat Khan after a fundraiser trip to Pakistan in 1997. They had already met two-years prior at a hospital.

This revelation renders prior claims about her plans to marry Dodi Al Fayed futile.

Diana meeting a cancer patient during a tour of a Pakistani hospitalMike Forster/AP

“She was truly taken with somebody who was so pure of purpose,” said Vanity Fair journalist Sarah Ellison. “He was healing people. He wasn’t remotely interested in her fame. He obviously wasn’t all that interested in his own appearance. He sort of had a paunch. He ate Kentucky Fried Chicken. I mean, it’s definitely this sort of aggressive kind of normalcy.”

Telegraph UK

Sources close to the princess shared their knowledge about the relationship with many claiming that she was indeed dating Khan but it was not supposed to become public knowledge.

“Diana fell in love with Hasnat Khan when she went to visit a friend in hospital and there he was, the doctor with the big, limpid, dark eyes,” said Tina Brown, the author of “The Diana Chronicles.”

It also seemed like Khan reciprocated her feelings, “I think Hasnat was very much in love with Diana,” Brown said.

Diana’s personal chef, Darren McGrady and her butler, Paul Burrell were also in on the secret affair after Khan “virtually moved into Kensington Palace” while dating the Princess.

“I remember the princess’ sort of weekend menu changed slightly,” McGrady said. “She was asking for, you know, curries and things like that.”

But it wasn’t long until trouble began to brew in paradise.

Find out why the relationship hit the rocks in the next page.

Khan was from a religious family that would’ve opposed his marriage to Diana, according to Brown and Robert Devorik, a friend of the late princess.

She put effort into reaching out to his family in an attempt to get their blessings for the union. This led royal insiders to believe that her trip to Pakistan was more than just about raising money for cancer, it was about seeking Khan’s family’s approval.

“She sat there, drinking tea with his aunties and grannies and uncles and everything,” said Brown. “And they were just absolutely perplexed by this princess in their garden, sitting there having tea.”

Despite all her efforts, Khan didn’t find the need to progress the relationship as fast as Diana wanted and it wasn’t long before they parted ways.

Hasnat said to me, ‘I don’t want to be known as just Mr. Diana. I want my world. I want to be a surgeon,’” added Burrell. “And this is where their two worlds collided.”

A short while after, Diana left for her final trip to Paris alongside Dodi Al Fayed. Khan later told police that he tried to reach the princess that fateful night but her number had already been changed.

“I think that if Diana were alive today, we would have remained very good friends, whatever she did and whomever she was with,” Khan told police.

“It is a huge loss when someone very close to you dies. I do not know what Diana was like in other relationships but she protected me very well, not just from the media but also from a lot of information. Perhaps she protected me because she thought we had a future together.”

Khan is still working as a heart surgeon in London and continues to protect Diana’s privacy even in her death.

You can get further insight into what really happened between Diana and Khan when The Last 100 Days of Diana premieres this Sunday, May 7, at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

The unauthorized book claims Dolly Parton had an ‘affair of the heart’ in the 1980s behind the back of her then husband. The affair did not end well, and Parton’s heart was so broken she almost committed suicide. The affair was supposedly with her band leader Gregg Perry.

“I was sitting upstairs in my bedroom one afternoon when I noticed in the nightstand drawer my gun that I keep for burglars. I looked at it a long time. Then, just as I picked it up, just to hold it and look at it for a moment, our little dog, Popeye, came running up the stairs,” she reportedly said. “The tap-tap-tap of his paws jolted me back to reality. I kinda believe Popeye was a spiritual messenger from God.”

“I don’t think I’d have done it, killed myself, but I can’t say for sure,” she allegedly continued. “Now that I’ve gone through that terrible moment, I can certainly understand the possibilities even for someone solid like me if the pain gets bad enough.”

The book, entitled ‘Dolly on Dolly’ also chronicles the country singer’s struggles with binge eating. her childhood, and her sexual experimentation.
