Most Adults Can’t Solve This Third Grade Math Problem. Can You?

It’s been a long time since many of us sat on a school bench. As we get older, our brains tend to get a little rusty and we start to forget how to solve the most basic math problems.

Last week, a mom had people on the internet scratching their heads after she asked for help in solving her eight-year-old daughter’s math homework.

Dusty Sappington, from Terry, Mississippi, turned to Reddit to share a third grade math problem that left both her and her daughter, Izzy, stumped.

The problem reads: “Janell had 15 marbles. She lost some of them. How many does Janell have now?”

“If someone can answer this correctly, my child will be done with her homework!” wrote Dusty.

It wasn’t long before answers started trickling in, but many of them turned out to be wrong.

“<15," wrote one user, and added, "but I don't think that's a fair 3rd grade question."

Some even went out of their way to offer complicated math equations that are definitely too advanced for Izzy’s grade level.

Well, it turns out the answer may have been within the question all along, it just takes a little bit of extra thinking.

Dusty revealed that her daughter has dyslexia and attends a private school that specializes in teaching children with learning disabilities, so it’s very surprising that the math problem seems to be so difficult to solve. The homework didn’t come with additional instructions or multiple choice answers.

While most people on Reddit were busy providing numerical answers to the baffling homework question. A few others took an easier approach.

“The correct answer is, “some,” wrote one user. However, their reply was challenged by other comments.

“You guys are going crazy here, the answer is clearly ‘The rest’,” wrote another.

One user jokingly commented that “Janell lost her marbles.”

To this day, the problem remains unsolved. Dusty told HuffPost that she is waiting for the teacher to return the graded homework so she can find out what the correct answer it.

“To be honest, I’m unsure if it was printed in error or was a question to test her knowledge of less than and greater than, which she has touched on in the past,” said Dusty.

She also explained that although she did hope to get an answer from Reddit, she posted it “mainly for amusement.”

“Being the mother of a third-grader and a fifth-grader, I have seen a lot of homework over the years that has our family laughing at the absurdities, scratching our heads and relying too much on Google,” she explained.

People Are Freaking Out Over This Optical Illusion Dog, Do You See Why?

Even if you have 20/20 vision, your eyes can often deceive you. There’s a photograph making the rounds on the internet, and it is the perfect example of how much your eyes can play tricks on you.

The picture, which was captioned “Optical Illusion Dog,” was recently uploaded to Reddit by user ‘chadwalk,’ and has since baffled people on the internet. The image has been garnering some hilarious reactions from those who can’t seem to figure out what they’re seeing.

“This dog broke my biological face recognition module,” wrote one user. Another commented, “Ouch, this hurts my brain.”

Check it out for yourself:

Did you manage to figure out what is going on the in photo?

If you think there’s something off about one of the dog’s faces, you’re not alone, but you’ve been going about it all wrong.

“I just spent two minutes spinning my phone around trying to see this dog after already coming to terms about how great the owners are for adopting this poor dog, while taking solace in the fact that he doesn’t know he’s different, only to find out he’s ok after all,” wrote one Reddit user. “What a roller coaster!”

If you still haven’t figured it out, we can help.

First of all, no dogs were harmed in the making of this illusion. If you’re concerned about the dog in the middle, don’t worry, they’re absolutely fine.

The reason why the canine looks deformed is because it is resting in an awkward position. Try tilting your head while looking at the photo, it’ll put things into a different perspective.

If you’re still having trouble deciphering the illusion, this will make it easier:

Turns out, the silly dog in the center of the image has its head tilted back and sideways, but at first glance people see the dog’s left eye as his right, and his nose as his left eye, which looks like it is injured.

“It took me way longer than It should have to figure out the dogs head was almost upside down to appear as it does,” wrote one user.

It’s just like the dress and shoe debate all over again, and like another user said, no matter how many of these puzzling photos you come across, it is almost always “harder than you’d expect.”

Did it take you long to figure out the illusion? Let us know!

There’s A Soldier Hiding In This Viral Photo, Can You Spot It?

The superpower of any army is their ability to blend into their surroundings.

If that fails, then the army has less chance of survival.

The picture below, which was posted on the British Army’s Twitter account by a Section Commander’s Battle Course in Wales, proved that the Army’s camouflage tactics weren’t perfected enough.

Despite the misty image, the soldier in the picture below can be spotted easily.

In the caption, they wrote: “Camouflaged in woodland on the Section Commander’s Battle Course in Wales… can you spot the soldier in this image?”

Keep in mind that an enemy should be able to locate their target in only a few seconds in order to ensure their own survival. So can you find the soldier in only a few seconds?

If that was easy, try to spot the camouflaged Marine in the photo below.

Keep going to see the answers!

Did you notice the soldier’s helmet?

Military cross holder, James Deegan, commented on the tweet: “Yep rear pouch undone slight shine from his mess tin. Failure to get basics right get you clipped.”

Other followers also commented that the soldier’s “helmet gives him away.”

Was spotting the Marine harder? He’s crouched down on the right, surrounded by mostly dry vegetation.

How fast were you able to spot the soldier and the marine? Let us know in the comments! Share this with a friend and see if they can spot it faster than you!

No One Can Agree On The Color Of This Dresser And It’s Making Us All Feel A Little Crazy

It’s happening again! First the dress, then the shoes, now a dresser! Seriously, it makes no sense. These viral internet pictures swirl around the internet, confusing everyone and anyone who dares to look at them. The new one that has surfaced online has managed to raise the same amount of controversy as the original two.

First it was the dress, people couldn’t decide if it was black and blue or white and gold.

People debated widely until the original photographer explained that there was something off with the white balance.

Later, a pair of shoes took over the internet.

People claim that they were seeing pink and white but others said it was grey and teal. Well it turned out that someone had color corrected it because it was actually pink and white.

But this new dresser picture has us all confused.

Here is what people are saying about it…

Some people say blue and grey, others saw white and pink, and then there were a select few who say blue and pink. The debates got pretty intense.

Well, the original poster of the image came back to say that it is a grey and blue dresser.

Someone tried to correct it, but other people are saying its all fake.

However, people are calling this color correction out for being too much of a correction. One Reddit user said, “I see pink and white that somebody screwed up the white balance way too blue on. Just look at the red on the hat on the left side. Completely washed now. Edit: Also note that the items on top of the dresser are being lit by the ambient light in the room, but the dresser itself — as indicated by the bright white reflection along the top edge — is being lit by a camera flash. So there’s no reason to believe white balancing based on items in the background is even going to result “correct” coloration.”

So, what color do you see?

13 Grade School Math Problems Most Parents Can’t Solve

Are you smarter than a fifth grader? No, we’re not offering a cash prize if you can prove it. But after struggling with these “easy” math questions we’d like to see how many you can solve.

We promise you don’t need a calculator for any questions, but keep a pencil and paper handy because the answers are on the last page!

1. Let’s start simple

A study in Japan found that 60{49382ccf8aa3307257579caf6f867159d328eca730a0976815a1bacefc5bc6ee} of people in their 20s got this question right, compared to 90{49382ccf8aa3307257579caf6f867159d328eca730a0976815a1bacefc5bc6ee} of older generations. We’re not sure what being a millennial has to do with math, but see if you can solve this equation.

Mind Your Decisions

2. What’s the ?

The aim of this puzzle is to solve what number is in the ? space. Yes, it’s really that simple. And no, we can’t give you any other clues.

3. The bat and the ball

This is an oldie but a goodie:

A baseball bat with a ball costs $1.10. The bat cost $1 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?

4. Let’s Make a Deal

Damn Interesting

You’re competing on a game show where there are three doors. One door is hiding $1 million, the other doors are empty.

You pick door #1. The host opens door #3 and reveals that it is empty. He asks you if you want to keep door #1 or switch to door #2.

Which is the best answer?

5. Here’s a head-scratcher

Take a look at this equation and see if you can solve it:

What’s the answer?

6. Lily pad logic

There’s a lake with a patch of lily pads growing on it. Every day, the patch doubles in size. If it takes 48 days to cover the whole lake, how long would it take to cover just half of the lake?

If those aren’t tough enough we have more questions, and of course the answers are on the last page.

7. The penny question

Two Pennies / Twitter

Which is better? Being given $10 million right now, or getting a penny today, two pennies tomorrow, four pennies the next day and so on for a month?

8. Mental math

Don’t use a calculator or pencil for this question, do all the math in your head.

Now write down your answer.

9. Solve the equation

10. This one is tricky

They say that a six-year-old can solve this in just 20 seconds. It takes some adults a lot longer.

11. This one could drive you insane

12. The missing dollar

Read this story about a boy buying a shirt and see if you can make heads or tails of it:

13. Parents hated this homework question

Can you see where they all went wrong trying to solve it?

Turn to the next page for the answers – if you’re brave enough!

Question 1: 1 (You should divide the 3 by 1/3 first to get this answer).

Question 2: 6 (All the rows and columns in the puzzle add up to 15).

Question 3: 5 cents (People assume the ball must cost 10 cents, but if that was true that bat would be $1, and only 90 cents more expensive).

Question 4: You should switch. When you picked a door your odds were 1/3. With door #3 removed, your odds are now 1/2. BUT you were more likely to pick an empty door first, so switching is the better option. If you’re still confused you can watch a video to see a longer explanation.

Question 5: 9. After doing the brackets and exponents, remember to work from left to right. The problem goes like this: 6÷2(1+2) equals 6÷2*(1+2), which is the same as 6÷2*3 or 3*3 = 9.

Question 6: 47 (If the patch doubles in size every day, on day 47 it’s half as big as day 48, and covers half the lake).

Question 7: The pennies are the better choice. By the end of the month, they’ll have doubled and doubled to make $10,737,418.23. Really! These guys did the math for you.

Question 8: 4,100. By the end of the problem, you get so used to adding without “carrying over” that you probably jumped from 4,090 to 5,000. Oops!

Question 9: 2. The equation is just the last line, the first two are unrelated. Sorry, that one was a little mean!

Question 10: It’s parking space 87. Try looking at the problem upside down.

Question 11:14. Look closely at the last line: bananas are worth one each and coconuts are worth one each. As you can see, there’s just one coconut and three bananas in the final question.

Question 12: There was no missing dollar. The boy makes the mistake at the end of the story when he adds up the two $49 debts ($98) and then adds his $1. He should subtract his $1 instead, to end up at $97, the price of the shirt.

Question 13: 65. Try working backwards, that makes the question much easier.

How many did you get right?

Can You Figure Out Who Is Going To Make Meghan Markle’s Wedding Dress?

We are officially only four months away from the next royal wedding, and there is so much to prepare for the big day! We can only imagine that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be busy enough picking and choosing what they want included when they finally walk down the aisle together.

While we know that Meghan plans on having her mother walk her to the altar (as opposed to her estranged father) one secret that is being kept well under wraps is what she plans to wear on the walk towards her future-husband.

It has been suggested that this may be one of the hardest decisions that Meghan will have to make, and may take the longest to assemble.

Christine Ross, a blogger who dedicates her time to analyzing the bride-to-be’s fashion choices, says there is likely a lengthy interview process.

“I imagine Meghan has reached out to designers she loves and admires and has spoken with them about design options and their design process,” she says. “From there, she would choose a designer who she clicks with to create the perfect bespoke gown.”

But who is on the list of potential candidates?

Ross believes that Meghan will call on her best friend, fashion stylist Jessica Mulroney, for advice on brands and designers to work with.

Jessica was one of the first people that Meghan told about her first date with Prince Harry, and has proven that she could keep a secret!

Some of the anticipated choices include Emilia Wickstead, a London-based bridal designer who previously styled Lady Charlotte Wellesley’s dress and is well-known for her stunning creations.

Another top contender is Erdem Moralioglu, a Canadian designer whose outfits have already appeared on the royal family, and is likely looking to offer his capabilities as a bespoke stylist to a royal wedding.

As a curve ball, some are looking at unconventional British designer, Stella McCartney. Her modern looks are backed up with strong feminist values, and when asked if she would be interested in designing the royal wedding dress McCartney said she would be honored!

Who would you like to see design Meghan’s wedding dress?

Your Zodiac Sign Can Reveal Which Fast Food Chain Is Best For You

We all crave fast food. Some of us almost every single second of the day, and others of us only occasionally.

Based on your zodiac sign, we can guess your go-to fast food chain! If you’re confused by what the stars have to say about what your tastebuds desire, we’ll explain why.

As an Aquarius, you know you’re awesome, but you also know that you’re indecisive, which is why you love pizza so much. It’s your intelligence telling you that life is better when you have a slice of pizza in hand.

The friendly, sensitive Pisces can be picky when it comes to food. You don’t like being adventurous and trying out new places, but will always find something warm and delicious at Panera Bread.

An Aries is known for being independent, and also for going places that no one else dares to go. Well, Dunkin’ Donuts is practically loved by everyone, but not everyone is like you to have tried almost everything on their menu.

A Taurus is so predictable, and that’s why you’ll always find them at a McDonald’s. Be honest though, you don’t mind going there. The company is well established and they’ve got a lot of deals.

Geminis are always looking for the best thing out there, and we all know the best thing in the world is ice cream. Also, you probably don’t like making any hard decisions, and you’re well aware that dessert is the most important part of a meal (don’t lie.)

Cancers can sometimes get super worked up over the little things, and that’s why they love fast food places that offer them a lot of choices. Jack in the Box has plenty of delicious options and you’re still working on trying them all.

If you haven’t seen your zodiac sign, keep going!

Leos are tough, and so are their palates. You love being in a crowd and hate eating alone, so going to Taco Bell and getting creative with your meal is just how you like it.

If you’re a Virgo and you’ve found yourself on here, you’re probably only curious to see what fast food chain suits you best, because, honestly, you probably wouldn’t choose any of them. That’s fine, but if you had to choose you’d probably go with Subway. You can make your own meals and have a lot of “earthy” options to choose from.

Libras are smart, so they’d never go to a place where they don’t know how the meal was made. A&W’s beef is raised without hormones and steroids, which is enough to make you love that all-American food.

Scorpios can’t really make up their mind, and maybe that’s why they’re always seeking the truth. For that reason, you don’t really know what to think of fast food chains, but Chipotle offers wholesome ingredients you can’t refuse.

Sagittarians are all about adventure and travel, and Starbucks seems to give them that sense. The atmosphere reminds you of an airport or somewhere you only pass by while you’re headed somewhere else.

Capricorns, you are wise beyond your years. You highly value family and tradition, which is why you love going to Chick-fil-A and getting some quality service.

What’s your zodiac sign? Let us know if the stars got it right!
