Why does it seem that some tourists always spoil things for others by misbehaving in other countries? Thai villagers had had enough when a British tourist was seen to be scuttling across the roofs of their houses. The evening in the quiet village of Pattaya was disturbed when the locals saw him up on the roofs with blood streaming from his face, and dislodging tiles as he went.
Enough was enough! The locals grabbed the man, dressed only in his underwear, and hog tied him, until the local police arrived. The man was shouting in a London accent and would not be calmed down, despite the police talking to him. Finally the police poured a bucket of water over him, in an attempt to keep him quiet. Even that did not help, and the police took the man away.
The man had no identification on him, and appeared to be very drunk, which led the police to think that he may have been at a party at the popular party strip ‘Walking Street’ some 15 minutes away by taxi, and got lost walking home. No one from that area recognised him, and no one had ever seen him before.
Police Colonel Apichai Grobpet said that the man had been causing a disturbance and that was why he was arrested.
“We haven’t identified the man yet. He had no passport or details on him and he was not giving us any details about himself,” he said.
“He was causing a disturbance but the villagers in the local community came together to catch him and keep him under control.”
Onlooker Nat Charaporn wondered if the man behaved in that way in his own country. It seems like some tourists think that they can misbehave in other countries and do things that they would never get away with in their own.
“Why are the foreigners so crazy? We see them a lot, doing the strangest things. I want to know, are they like this in their own country?,” he said.
“Nobody knows who this man was or what he was doing here. He doesn’t live here. He was drunk and we could smell alcohol on him.”
“He was ranting and not in the correct state of mind. The police put water on him to make him relax but he was still shouting.”
