SEC Rivals Expected To Poach Alabama 5-Star Stud

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed that 5-star defensive tackle Jaheim Oatis will enter the transfer portal after redshirting the remainder of the 2024 season.

Oatis, who has been plagued by injuries this year, has decided to sit out the rest of the season to explore new opportunities.

The decision comes during a challenging time not just for Oatis but the Alabama program as a whole.

Tide defensive coordinator, Kane Wommack, also commented on the situation during a press conference, stating that Oatis’ physical setbacks hindered his performance this season.

“My focus is on the players that are going to do everything they can to help us win football games,” Wommack said. “So that’s really where my focus is right now.”

Meanwhile, DeBoer acknowledged the complexity of Oatis’ situation…

“Felt like it was going that way,” he said. “I think the thing you also have to understand is there’s other elements. There’s health, there’s life elements. I love these guys. They work hard.

“Jeheim’s choices and things, there’s reasons for that, right? He has notified and continued to be in communication with us. Kind of felt like it was maybe going that direction, not just today or yesterday.

“We move forward with the guys that really are able to help us win and focused on our program.”

Oatis made the announcement on social media, emphasizing his excitement for the next phase of his career.

“As I look forward to the next chapter, I am excited to find a new home where I can bring NFL-caliber play and help my future team compete for championships,” Oatis posted.

During his three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Oatis showed flashes of potential but was unable to maintain consistency due to injuries.

Oatis’ decision comes on the heels of Alabama’s 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide’s defense struggled mightily, giving up 418 yards of total offense and allowing the Commodores to convert 12 of 18 third-down attempts.

The loss highlighted Alabama’s defensive vulnerabilities, something Oatis was once expected to help resolve.

There are rumors that multiple SEC teams will be interesting in bringing Oatis aboard.

If he’s able to stay healthy, there’s no reason why he won’t be able to regain his old dominant form which made him a 5-star recruit coming out of high school.

“Still very high on Oatis,” wrote 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna. “Limited snap count in 2024. See as a Day-2, early Day-3 type of prospect on Sundays. Will be one of the most prioritized prospects in the portal.”

What are your thoughts on Oatis’ decision to hit the portal? … Where do you think he will end up???
