In a surprising and scary development from the NFL world, Carolina Panthers quarterback Andy Dalton was reportedly involved in a car accident on Tuesday afternoon in South Charlotte.
According to reports, Dalton is currently being assessed by the Panthers’ medical team.
Dalton’s wife, their three children, and the family dog were also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Thankfully, no one in the car required emergency medical transportation.
The accident comes just days after Dalton appeared on the field for the Panthers in their Sunday matchup against the Washington Commanders, where he completed 11 passes for 93 yards but threw two interceptions in a 40-7 blowout loss.
The Panthers organization has yet to release an official statement on Dalton’s condition following the accident.
Dalton, a seasoned NFL veteran, has started over 175 games during his career. Originally from Katy, Texas, Dalton played college football at TCU before being drafted in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2011.
He spent nine seasons in Cincinnati before the team parted ways with him after selecting Joe Burrow as the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Following his time in Cincinnati, Dalton signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys, where he was initially brought in as a backup to Dak Prescott.
However, after Prescott suffered a severe leg injury, Dalton stepped in as the starter, finishing the 2020 season with a 4-5 record, amassing 2,169 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Dalton later joined the Chicago Bears, where he started the first two games of the 2021 season before rookie Justin Fields took over the starting role.
Despite being briefly relegated to the backup position, Dalton ended the season with a 3-3 record, throwing for 1,512 yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
In 2022, Dalton signed with the New Orleans Saints, starting in 14 games and posting a 6-8 record. He threw for 2,871 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions that season before joining the Carolina Panthers on a two-year deal.
Dalton’s extensive career has seen its fair share of highs and lows, but it’s hard to find anyone in the football world who has a single bad word to say about him. He’s been a respected leader at each and every stop he’s been.
Thankfully, it seems that no one was seriously hurt in today’s accident.
