Tomorrow presents us with yet another loaded college football slate.
With respect to the massive Alabama-Tennessee showdown, the biggest game of the day is undoubtedly Georgia-Texas.
It would be the understatement of the century to call them two of the best teams in the country. The outcome of tomorrow’s night’s clash in Austin will help paint the picture of what to expect the rest of the season.
While everyone has an opinion on the highly-anticipated matchup, Colin Cowherd raised a few eyebrows with his firm and direct take on the game.
“It’s the new SEC. I would be surprised if (Texas) didn’t beat Georgia. I watched them push Alabama around (last year), I think they’ll do the same thing this weekend,” Cowherd said on The Herd.
While you can certainly make a strong argument that Texas is the more talented team of the two, to say that the Longhorns are going to physically bully the Bulldogs is quite a strong statement to make.
The stakes are extremely high for both teams.
For Georgia, another loss would mark their second of the season and their second conference defeat, a major blow to their hopes of making it to the SEC Championship.
Meanwhile, for Texas, this game represents their first real test of the season. Despite playing solid competition like Michigan and Oklahoma, the Longhorns have yet to face a team of Georgia’s caliber.
Thanks to the expanded playoff field, a loss for either team wouldn’t eliminate them from national title contention. However, that certainly doesn’t take away from the urgency of the matchup.
Texas is currently a 5-point favorite. You can certainly guarantee that Kirby Smart has made the Dawgs well aware of that fact.
What is your take on the game? … Who do you see winning? … And is this merely the first time we’ll see these two powers clash this season???
