As we enter Week 3 of the college football season, it’s still way too early to make any definitive predictions about what the new 12-team College Football Playoff field will look like.
However, that hasn’t stopped one simulation from giving it a shot.
The Kelley Ford college football ratings outlet released its latest projection for what the College Football Playoff bracket looks like as we stand right now.
According to the simulation, Texas, Ohio State, Miami, and Utah, as conference champions, take the top four seeds.
Filling out the rest of the 12-team bracket are Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Penn State, USC, Missouri, and Boise State.
The opening round matchups would feature Ole Miss vs. Penn State, Georgia vs. Boise State, Alabama vs. Missouri, and Tennessee vs. USC.
Needless to say, Kelley Ford’s projections caused quite a stir on social media…
“The playoff format is so flawed. Every single bracket projection I’ve seen gives the 5 seed an easier road to the semis than the 1 seed.”
“Ideal scenario it Georgia here imo. Get to host a winnable playoff game. Then face weakest confrence champ. Then possible revenge for one of our losses. Then NCG in our backyard.
Side note, this leaves possibility of all SEC final 4. Bless y’all’s hearts if that happens.”
“OSU running the table.”
“Penn State not making it after that performance Saturday.”
“6 SEC teams? No way.”
“5 projected losses and still being Top 15 is kinda wild lol.”
Again, it’s way too early to start making any concrete statements about a projected playoff field.
Having said that, most people agree that Ohio State, Georgia and Texas have separated themselves from the rest of the country. Only time will tell if any other team will be able to leap into that top-tier class.
