In case there was ever any doubt, former Pro Bowl quarterback Ryan Tannehill wants to keep on playing.
Immediately following the concerning concussion that Tua Tagovailoa suffered a week ago, many fans wondered if the Dolphins would be interested in bringing old buddy Tannehill back to Miami.
However, it appears that neither side is too interested in making that reunion happen.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the 36-year-old Tannehill is focused on finding a more secure and sustainable home.
Despite the wishes of some, Tagovailoa has made it clear that he has no intentions on retiring from football. He has been put on IR, but the expectation is that he will return under center sooner rather than later.
Tannehill, who is still looking for an NFL team after going unsigned during the offseason, is interested in contributing to a team as the starter.
While virtually all starting quarterback positions are confidently filled across the NFL, some are more set in stone than others.
Whether the league agrees with him or not, Tannehill believes he still has plenty left in the tank.
After a difficult 2018 season, the Dolphins traded Tannehill to the Tennessee Titans, where he experienced a career resurgence.
In 2019, Tannehill won the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award and earned a Pro Bowl nod after throwing for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and just six interceptions over 12 games.
He spent five seasons in Tennessee before the team decided to move forward with 2023 second-round pick Will Levis as their future quarterback.
Meanwhile, the 1-1 Dolphins have opted to go with Skylar Thompson for their upcoming road game against the Seattle Seahawks. They also signed Tyler Huntley from the Ravens’ practice squad to serve as Thompson’s backup.
Despite the uncertainty around Miami’s quarterback situation, the team seems unlikely to call on Tannehill, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the Dolphins.
Drafted No. 8 overall by Miami in 2012, Tannehill went 42-46 as a starter, accumulating 20,434 passing yards, 123 touchdowns, and 75 interceptions.
He missed the entire 2017 season after re-injuring a torn ACL, which he had initially sustained during the 2016 season.
What are your thoughts on Tannehill’s plan to get back in the league?
Of course, the whole thing is a two-way street … Do you think any teams will be interested in bringing the former Pro Bowler aboard?
While he isn’t in a position to pick-and-choose his destination, it’s safe to assume at least a few teams will deal with injuries to their quarterbacks later in the season.
Do you think we’ll see Tannehill take meaningful snaps under center at some point this season???
